Hello!

And welcome to The Crafty Quill!

Does your manuscript or short story need an extra set of eyes before it goes to publishing?

Then you’ve come to the right place!

My name is Janet Byers, and I am the founder and owner of

The Crafty Quill

Editing and Proofreading Services.

I’m also a published author, with novels available on Amazon, Goodreads, and BookBub under my pen name J.R. Byers.

About me.

Before I began my writing career, I decided to get my degree in English.

After I did this, I began freelancing as an editor, proofreader, and beta reader for many of my author friends.

Like me, they were baby authors with a small budget, and simply could not afford the outlandish costs of these services.

Because I am an author myself, I understood the struggle, so I offered my services at an affordable rate.

Over time, my clientele rapidly grew.

And that’s how The Crafty Quill was born!

Services.

I offer a range of editing services to help authors develop, fine-tune and publish their work.

If you’re unsure which level of editing you need, I'll be happy to help you assess your manuscript.

My Services include.

*Line Editing.
*Copy Editing.
*Proofreading.
*Beta Reading.

*Manual Edits.

 What is a Line editor?

A line editor edits lines.

Word choice, sentence choice, paragraphs and words on the page.

The first step in editing, a line editor will make sure that the words in each sentence most clearly communicate your ideas.

The goal is to make your writing as smooth and polished as possible while maintaining your unique writing voice.

What is a Copy editor?

A Copy editor fine tunes your work.

The second step in editing, a copy editor recognizes mistakes in spelling, punctuation, and grammar, and will correct any typographical errors they may find.

They may also fact check information like names, dates, and notable facts.

A copy editor will also make sure your writing is consistent.

What is a proofreader?

Proofreading is the final stage of the editing process.
A proofreader offers an extra pair of eyes on your work to carefully check for any errors and inconsistencies that may have been missed in editing.

A crucial part of the publishing process, it is absolutely necessary before sending your work to a publisher.

What is a Beta Reader?

A beta reader will read your manuscript and give you feedback as to how your intended audience might respond to your work.

They will give you substantive feedback on whether they like the characters or whether the storyline and plot make sense.

However, beta readers are not a substitute for professional editing.

What are Manual Edits?

Manual editing is the process of correcting an author's manuscript after it is sent to me.

Rather than having their edits sent back to correct, many authors wish an editor to correct their work as it is edited.

I offer this service with an add on fee.

Note: This process is convenient to the author, but will add

approximately one to two weeks to the return time.

Why should you hire an experienced editor?

Sending your manuscript or short story to a publisher can be a very scary thing.

You want to be confident that your work is the very best that it can possibly be before you send it off to be published.

Hiring a professional will save you valuable time, and give you that extra set of eyes that every author needs to ensure that everything looks good before you take that final step to publish.
